THE EFFECT OF COUNSELING ON CHANGING THE VALUE SYSTEMS OF FEMALE OFFENDERS

The present research studies the effect of counseling on changing the offenderʹs tendencies towards certain components of a value system. One hundred and twenty offenders were randomly selected from the Isfahan prison to participate in this study. Participants were then divided in to 3 experimental groups (thievers, drug addicted, sexual offenders) and a control group. Differential Values Inventory (Prince) and Values Inventory (Rakij) were used as pre-tests. Participants then participated in individual and group weekly counselings for 3 months. At the end of the 3 months, participants were again tested. The significant difference between the test results of the two groups indicates that counseling has a positive effect on the value systems of female offenders. This study suggests the use of special training programs for prevention and reeducation of young offenders.
