Flow of Al-Si and cast iron liquids inside a filtering system, consisted of inlet, bubble trap, a 20 ppi ceramic foam filter and outlet , have been investigated by using a real time x-ray radiography set. Three filter models have been adopted to simulate the flow inside the filtering system to compare simulation with experimental results. Both experimental and simulation result suggest presence of a viscose and laminar flow inside the filter, in spite of using a tall sprue and high velocity of liquid. However, immediately after the filter, the flow becomes relatively non- laminar. In addition, simulation results show partial solidification of flow front inside the filter, in which certainly solid percentage depends on physical and thermal properties of filter and liquid.
