Examination of the Characteristics of Successful Schools in

In contemprory Iran, there have been a number of schools famed for being successful. An examination of the characteristics of three such schools yielded some data that can be of help in improving the quality of education throughout the school system. As a group, these schools have special goals in addition to those sanctioned by the MOE. They also have devoted and hard working teachers and administrators who work cooperatively and according to the schoolʹs constitution, have a scientific outlook on education, and value studentsʹ independence of character, self-reliance, and efficiency. At these schools all subjects are treated the same, as physical education and nutrition are considered as important as science and health; reading and doing labaroratory work are encouraged as politics and political games are discouraged. Each of the successful schools owes its success to teachers and administrators who have endured at their positions and have benefited from a relative self-acquired independence. These administrators do not follow the same set of procedures or methods, yet they all have interpreted ministerial rules and regulations to the advantage of their students.
