Effects of Competitive of Wild Oat on Grain Yield and Yield Components of Two Spring Wheat Cultivars

In order to study competition between wild oat and wheat a field experiment was conducted with increased series in 2001-2002 at the Agricultural Research Station, Ahvaz. The design was a factorial one in a completely randomized block base with four replications. Factors consisted of two wheat cultivars (Chamran and Fong), and density of wild oat (0, 50, 100, and 150 plants/m2).Results indicated that high density of wild oat reduced wheat grain yield and yield components. In the plant density ofl50 plants/m2 of wild oat, reduction of wheat grain yield was 53.7% in comparison with the monoculture and due to competition of wild oat. Chamran and Fong showed the lowest and the highest potential competition in all different levels of wild oat densities, respectively. However, Chamran cultivar yielded the highest grain due to its more spike number.
