Study of the effects of tillage operations and plant density on yield and yield components of two seed corn hybrids (700 and 704)

In order to investigate the effect of tillage operations and plant density on yield and yield components of two seed corn single cross (700 and 704) an experiment was carried out in split plot with completely randomized block design in four replications in 2004 in Mazandaran province ,Gharakhil station. Tillage operations (tillage+rotary, disk and rotary) were main plot and plant density (60000 ,70000 and 80000 plant/ha) and cultivars (Single cross 700 and 704) were sub plots .Different characteristics including plant height to the beginning and end of tassel; ear height from ground ;ear length; ear, cob and stem diameter; number of seed row; number of seeds in each seed row ;number of seeds per ear; seed yield; dry matter and harvest index were measured. Results showed that tillage operations were not significant except harvest index, but plant density on seed yield (P<1 X) and ear diameter (P< 5 X) were significant. Density of 80000 plant/ha has higher yield (11600 kg/ha) compare to others. Cultivars had significant effect (P< 1 X) and 704 hybrid yield was 11479 kg/ha and hybrid 700 was 9702 kg/ha. Plant density, cultivar and tillage operation interactions were significant (P< 5 ʹ/-). The highest and lowest yield were in Tillage + Rotary, 704 cultivar and density of 80000 plant/ha (13040 kg); and Rotary, 700 cultivar and 60000 plant/ha (7960 kg), respectively.
