Optimal granary location assesment in Fars Province R.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of the economic advantages of granary establishment or capacity development of the existing granaries of towns in the Fars province, where a reduction in the transportation costs from the points of purchase to granary locations could be achieved. For this purpose, the general linear programming and transportation model were used. The data, pertaining to 23 granaries and 210 purchase centers, were obtained from various statistical publications of agricultural ministry and statistical annual of the whole country and the Fars province. SPSS, QSB++ and Excel software were used to analyze the information.The analysis of data indicated that, there would be a possible reduction in the wheat transportation costs of about 11090302015 Rails per year. The results also indicated that establishment or capacity development of granaries in the town of Darab reduced transportation costs by 702290000 Rails which was considerably higher in comparison with the other towns of Fars province. Therefore it is suggested that the capacity of granaries in Darab can be increased to 100000 tons.
