Serum white blood cell changes in female rats with endometriosis

Background: Endometrios is is defined as the growth of endome tr ial glands and stroma outs ide the uteru s. The main cause of endometr iosis has not been defin ed well. It seems that immune system disturbances have an important role in the onse t of the di sease. Although some researchers have not report ed chan ges in whit e blood cells (WBC), others have done so regarding import ant chan ges in WBC counts and di fferentiation. The aim of thi s s tudy was to eva lua te WBC changes in female rats before and afte r surg ica l indu ct ion of endo metrios is. Methods: In proestru s stage, 3 millil iters of blood was drawn from each of the rat s. Th en , the left uter ine hom was removed and endome trium was impl ant ed surg ica lly to different plac es (subcutan eous, peritoneum and near ovar ies) . After 8 weeks, and in the same stage, ano ther round of blood sampling and seco nd surgery were ca rr ied out; the impl ant ed pieces were removed and sen t for path ological exa mina tion. Results: Total WBCs in group 2, after induct ion of endometrios is (77 47.00±9 4.89) compared wi th group I, before induction endometriosis (739S.60± 112,12) increased sign ificantly ( p ~O.OS ) .
