The Tobacco Trade between Iran and the Ottoman Empire

During the 19th century, Iran had its most extensive trade relations with the Ottoman Empire, exporting tobacco. The commercial relations between the two countries, however, entered a new phase when Iran gave the "Tonbak Company" monopoly over tobacco exports in 1891, and business agreements between the two countries were signed. This new phase of relations is discussed in this paper
