The sexual differences in mesiodistal dimensions of teeth in Iranian samples

Background & Aim: Forensic dentistry is one a/the branches offorensic medicine and a f1CH/ professional line ofdentistry which descript the lise ofdentistry in Criminal affairs. The Iranian population is composed of populationfrom different regions so they are good samples to analyze denIal dimensions and sexual variations. Materials & Method..v: This analytic. cross-sectional study was composed (~llOOstone cast from Iranian population of either sex ranging from 19 to 23 years, Mesiodistal breadth from 14 teeth (II through M: oj the maxilla and mandible) are taken from the lefi side and analyzed using the discriminantfunction statistics. Findings: Results of the study revealed that males exceeded females significanttv in dimensions stepwise discriminant function statistics suggested that upper Cʹ lower C. upper M_, and lower .ʹvl} are the most contributory teeth to the junction. Overall accuracy of sex diagnosis rangedfrom 64% to 78% for men and 6()~.;) to 1)7%for ʹfV0f1101, Conclusion: While dental difference between the sexes in Iranian population has been found high(v dimorphic; and, the accuracy ofthis classification remained at about 73% in Iranian this methods can be used as an alternative with other sex determination methods,
