A Comparative study of Khosrow and Shirin by Nezaami and the Kurdish versified story of Shirin and Farhaad by Almaas Khaan Kandooleʹee

Comparative literature is an independent branch of knowledge that studies literature of different nations of the world. Khosrow and Shirin by Nezaami is considered as one of the greatest classic works in Persian literature that has attracted the attention of many Persian poets and scholars and also from around the world. In Kurdish language, especially in its old dialect, called Southern Kurdish (Guraani or Huraami), many great literary works are written based on and imitating Khosrow and Shirin by Nezaami. Among these literary works, the versified story of Shirin and Farhaad by Almaas Khaan Kandooleʹee is of great importance. This work is actually another Khosrow and Shirin in Kurdish language and the recreation of what Nezaami has done. Because of the differences between this work and the one by Nezaami, especially the differences in the plot, characterization, narration ant the time of the stories, the writers of this article have chosen these two works for their study.
