Reorganization of Urban Land uses at the Entrance of Regional Metropolis (Case study: Seventh Region of Masbbad)

Spatial/physical structure ofIranʹs city entrances have been always the expression of their environmental, socio-cultural components. They provide wonderful landscape by opening of natural sights (mountain and plain) in one hand, and by socio-cultural entrance just like a cultural gate they represented their adjacent land uses(mosque and bazaar). While, due to the fast development of the regional Metropolis in recent years, we have to cope with the spatial/physical chaos in urban land uses around these cities. This phenomenon not only exposes spatial and functional disorder in land uses but also it creates some visual discordant visage such as environmental pollution, traffic nodes and restrictions to provide urban services which in consequence have caused some problem for urban management. Mashhad as the second Metropolis and the most important one in northeastern of Iran, especially with carrying capacity of tourists and pilgrims (Holly Shrine of Imam Reza), have been always deal with the spatial disorders around its entrances. Now, the question is how should be the main city entrance organized to maintain its cultural values and spatial orders which are necessary for urbanites and tourists? This article tries to explain the density of disturbance land use at this entrance.
