FLUID VELOCITY MEASUREMENTS USING DYE STREAK METHOD

Using colored substances like Fluorescent and Nigrosine cryst als which prod uce dye s trea ks in wat er is one way of obta ining velocity profiles of a fluid. In this study the effects of a large sill on th e selective with drawal of a twolayer fluid through a lin e sink is examined experimentally. Th e flow field upstream of the sill was measured using dye streaks method and th e results were compared with the predictions of a numeri cal model. The comparison of the discharges and velocit y profiles indi cates a good agreement between th e measured velocity profiles and the pr edictions.
