چكيده لاتين :
Efforts to ascertain gender-based similarities and differences in coping
strategies have led to dissimilar and sometimes contradictory results
thereby requiring further research in this area. ln order to determine the
role of gender in the employment of coping strategies, a sample of 590
female (mean age 22.6) and 470 male (mean age 23.8) college students
completed the Iranian Coping Strategies Scale lICS; Dadsetan, Asgari
Hajizadegan, 2008a). MAN COYA results showed girls had significantly
higher means in the social support, spiritual support and wishful thinkingworry
strategies while boys scored higher in the distracting and
submission strategies. After controlling for age effects (MANCOYA), the
only meaningful difference which remained was the more frequent
application of submission strategy by boys and girlsʹ mean score in
applying cognitive avoidance strategy significantly increased. Analysts of
the role of age in coping strategies indicates a strong developmental basis
in each genderʹs choice of coping strategies.
