MICROMORPHOLOGICAL AND ANATOMICAL STUDIES OF CERTAIN SPECIES OF VERBASCUM (SCROPHULARIACEAE) IN WEST AZERBAIJAN, IRAN

The high morphological dive rsi ty among the species of the ge nus Verbascum causes problems in the de lim itation of the species. Therefo re, there is a difficult y in offe ring a natur al and we ll organized class ifica tion for the spec ies of the genus . This resea rch was based on the lea f, see d coa t and frui t ana tomy, and seed micromorpholo gy of the species growing in Iran. The sha pe and den si ty rate of epicarp ic id iobl asts ca n be a de termi ning charac ter for Verbas cum spec ies. Two types of mesoph yll were found within the species : Dorsiv entral and lsob ilater al. Also two types of thick nes s ra tio of endocarp to perica rp (2/3 , 1/2) were distingu ished. However, a s ligh t difference has been observed in the sha pe of epide rmal ce lls of seeds and the presence of ves icle on the lateral wa lls of the epide rma l cells of seeds.
