A Citation Analysis of Urban Planning Masterʹs Theses i Submitted Between 1988 and 2005 in Tehran, Tarbiat Modarres, and Yazd Universities with an Emphasis on the Impact Factor of Cited Theses

This research aims to determine the impact factor of theses cited in the University of Tehran, Yazd University and Tarbiat Modarres University, urban planning masterʹs theses submitted between 1988 and 2005. The findings show that among the total number of citations in the studied theses (9854 citations), books received the most number of citations (69.31 percent), and offline databases received the least (0.14 percent). Theses were cited 674 times which makes up 6.83 percent of the total number of citations. The majority of the cited theses were in the field of spatial development and spatial analysis (12.67 percent) and the lowest citation rate was for theses about rural environment and slum habitation (2.22 percent). Ali Zangiabadiʹs thesis (1992) from Tarbiat Modarres University (cited 10 times) and Mirnajaf Mousviʹs thesis (2003) from Yazd University (cited 8 times) had the highest citation rates and were both In the "spatial development and spatial analysis" category. The highest impact factor was 100 for Yazd University theses in 2005, 64 for Tarbiat Modarres University theses in 2004, and 22 for theses of the University of Tehran in 2001.
