A Study on the Information Needs of Graduate Students in the Agriculture and Natural Resources Faculties of University of Tehran and the Extent to Which These Needs Are Met in the Libraries of the Faculties

This research surveys the information needs of masterʹs and doctoral students in the Agriculture and Natural Resources faculties of the University of Tehran. The main goal of this research is to determine the extent to which the information needs of the surveyed students are met in the faculty libraries. Findings show that the most important motivation for information seeking was updating professional knowledge. Most of the students (81.4 percent) use the findings of empirical research to fulfill their information needs. 80.6 percent of the students use books and special journals to access the information they need. Students also use Google to meet their information needs and findings reveal that more than 75 percent of the students use web as an information source. Shortage of resources and facilities are considered as the main obstacles to accessing information.
