The Role of the Mass Media in Womenʹs Sense of Social Security

Many researchers believe that there is a significant relationship between sense of social security and gender, and that females suffer more than males from fear of crime. One of the most important ways of improving sense of security among the members of a society is benefiting from the potentials of the mass media. This paper tries to explore the role of the mass media in improving the womenʹs sense of security. The results of this study show that most mass media disseminate news related to criminal events disregarding the fact that such news can exert negative effects on womenʹs mental health; in other words, such mass media play an important role in developing the sense of security in women.
