Response of structures against dynamic loading depends on their dynamic properties. In this paper, for evaluation of the mentioned properties whose direct measurement is not possible, an inverse method is used. This method computes the method above properties from the other practically measurable quantities and is based on inversion of the mathematical model presenting physical behavior of the system. Similar to other common inverse problems, singularity of characteristic matrix is the main problem. Singular value decomposition method is used to detect ill-conditioning encountered in this mathematical inverse modeling. To explain the abilities of this methodology, two- and three- dimensional shear frames are examined. To access structural response in a reasonable manner, this response is retrieved using principal concepts of structural dynamics theory. This response is then used to calculate dynamic properties of the system. The results show promising and acceptable capability of the present method for shear frames system identification.
