A Webometrics Study of Iranian State Universities; an Investigation into the Cooperation and Identification of Core Websites

This research aims to investigate the visibility, Web Impact Factor (WIF), RWIF and the collaboralion rate of the websites of the Iranian Universities under the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology (MSRT), and Health and Medical Education (MHRME). 111 websites were reviewed through Yahoo, in a period of one month (October 6 - November 5, 2008). These were reduced to 71 websites in analysing co-links and identifying hi-frequeney websites. The data were collected in two phases: using Yahoo Directory, first all the investigated university websites were retrieved and stored on a PC. Then, the websitesʹ various links were extracted and analysed. The results indicated that among all universities, the website of Olume Behzisty University had the most and the Medical Sciences University of Qum, the least visibility (with 6.44 and 0.08 respectively). The WJF of the Website of the Medical Sciences University of Shahrood was the most, and that of the Medical Sciences University of Rafsanjan, the least one. In regard to RWIF, the Website of Mohaghegh Ardebili University with 3.5 had the first, and those of three universities (Gilan, Medical Sciences of Shahid Beheshli, and Medical Sciences of Gilan) had the last ranks. Results of the In-link analysis showed that the investigated websites had collaborated in 9 clusters, and a multidimensional scale illustrated the collaboralion of these v/ebrjtes in 9 clusters.
