A Study and Comparison of the Citations of the Journal Articles Indexed in ISI Web of Science to Open Access Journals of DOAJ during 2003-2008

The main purpose of (his research was (o ex amide the extent to which citations from the ISI Web of Scienceʹs journal articles cite POAJʹs journals during 2003-2008. Data were gathered by means of Cited Reference Search in ISI Web of Science and were iMinʹjʹzed using SPSS 16. Analyzing 2953 jounvʹfs from DOAJ, it was revealed that 321 journals (10.87%) reeqived 19050 citations. Pure Sciences received 10116 (53.1%), Health and Medical Sciences received 5965 (31.31%), Technology and Engineering received 1436 (7.54%), Social Sciences received 832 (437%), Arts and Humanities received 701 citations (3.68%).. According to these findings, the trend to open access journals in the field of Pure Sciences is more than the other four fielo*, as weiʹ as, the trend to these journals in Pure Sciences and Health and Medical Sciences generally is more remarkable than the Arts and Humanities and Social Sciences, On the other hand, the results of Chi-square test (x2) also indicated that there was a meaningful difference among the citations regarding the five fields.
