The Syntactic Structure and Prosody of the article ʹraʹ in Tarikh-e Beihaghi

Tarikh-e Beihaghi is one of the most important history books that reflect the events of a specific period of Iranʹs history. In addition to relating many events of Ghaznavi ruling system, Tarikh-e Beihaghi is important for its literary aspects, a feature that makes it different from other history books. Using linguistic devices in both syntactic and prosodic levels, gives it an outstanding literary aspect. High frequency of variation in form of a word, word order, tone, and discourse makes it neeessary to have a special approach in studying this text in order to find the reason of this variety. The researcher has conducted the present paper for the study of variety in syntactic structure. Use of prepositions with multiple meaning and functions is one of the techniques used by Beihaghi in writing this history book. One of these prepositions is the article ʹra\ This paper aims at studying the frequency and different functions of this preposition. The results of this study show twenty one cases of function and meaning of this III .l^JLJb ^LJI {^ ^A-UUi/>V« preposition that have not yet been included in the grammatical system of Persian language.
