The Distinction between Existence and Nature in Avicennaʹs Philosophy and its Impact on Christian Medieval Philosophy

One of the elements influencing the transformation of Greek philosophy, especially the intellectual theology of the middle ages, was the presentation of new issues in ontology by the Islamic scholars including Avicenna. The issue of the distinction between existence and nature and following that the division of creatures into the possible existent and the necessary existent and the belief in the objectivity of existence and the consideration of God as the absolute being led to structural changes in Greek philosophy and introduced new issues to philosophical theology and caused both an extension in the Peripatetic philosophy and an act of closeness between philosophy and theology. This article deals with the issue of the distinction between existence and nature in Avicennaʹs philosophy and its role in the transformation of Peripatetic philosophy and its influence on Christian theology in the middle ages.
