Semantic Significance of Music and Image formation with Words (In Contemporary Arabic Poetry)

Contemporary poetry - especially symbolism and surrealism - assumes a mission to accomplish which is to unearth the truth concealed in the essence of objects; a truth which is beyond their outward appearance and is not readily identifiable. To achieve this end, poetry makes use of methods and devices, the most effective and significant of which is the music of words and the image formation by words. In view of these schools, word has a particular phonetic value by means of which it can convey meaning. Image formation with words gives the form and manner such a power and extent that like content and matter it can become infinite; this infinite quality is such that in each of its applications, the word creates a new dimension and a new language is born beside the primary language. Thus, reliance on the music of and the images shaped by words paves the ground for discovering the mystery concealed beneath the appearance of objects.
