The Abbasids and the Ismaeilids: Their Conflicts and their Confrontations

The Fatimid- Ismaeilid government was formed in the north of Africa in 297 LH. Having spread the domain of their power, they stood against the Abbasid caliphs as a serious rival. Their opponents proceeded their activities across the Islamic lands, and even they were able to bring Baqdad under their control. In addition to this, the Ismaeilid of Nezarriyya established a strong foundation in Iran. Being in enmity with them, the Abbasid caliphs attempted to rise up against them in various manners, including encouraging and motivating their rivals such as Qaramta, rejecting the identity of the Alavids, the Ismaeiliayya Imams, discrediting the Ismaeiliyya movement, and through the propaganda acts against the Ismaeilids as well as the military conflicts against them. This paper is an attempt to reveal the confrontations and conflicts between these two forces in the world of Islam
