Baitara or Baitari, which is nowadays the equivalent of veterinary, deals with horsesʹ diseases and how to treast and cure them as well as the manners of breeding horses. The present paper seeks to study the history of this science from the previous civilizations in Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, and so on, but the important sources, like other sciences, come from Greece, Rome, Bizance, and ancient Iran and is introduced into the Islamic civilization. The article proceeds to mention the special attention paid to the art of raising horses as well as their maintenance due to the important roles they played in the military and state organizations, particularly for the Muslim government. Also, an attempt is made by the author to numerate different books written in this matter, the first of which is attributed to Ibn- Isacc. There are also a lot of writings in this concern in Islamic Lands. Finally, the paper seeks to consider the role of military cavalry troops with the Mongules as well as in Egypt, which later turned into the center of Islamic civilization, and later on, during the Ilkhanids and Taimoorids periods, and then at the times of the Safavids, Othmanids, and Goorkanids in India more attention was paid to this science. After the 18th century, this science changed into the modern veterinary and thus, a great development occurred in the early 14 the LH/ 20the AD in Iran
