France and the Persian Gulf

France entered into the Persian Gulf after the domination of imperialist states including Portugal, Holland and Britain. This country paid more attention to economic ties. France kept competing against the aforementioned states in banks and ports of the Persian Gulf, and with the support of missionaries. France attempted to obtain a stronghold over a period of time through dispatching diplomats. French consulate posts oversaw commercial affairs in Bushehr and Basra. However, French naval forces failed to challenge English navies. Due to such a reality, they sometimes carried their commodities with English ships. In this paper, the role played by France in the Persian Gulf along with its ends will be discussed.
