Naval Force ofIran during the Qajari Period

Due to her position in the Persian Gulf and the Caspian Sea, Iran enjoyed having a very suitable opportunity for naval force. In other words, these two waterways played an important role in fortifying Iranʹs political and economic location. After Safavids, Qajari kings attempted for the first time to set up naval force. In this paper, and with reference to historical documents, the formation of naval force will be discussed. Since the very first attempts were made by Afsharis, the paper will shed the light on Nader Shah and then Feraydoon Mirza - the govemer of Fars - during Qajari period. With the failure of Feraydoon Mirza, the stage was paved for Amir kabir. In fact it was Amir Kabir, the prime minister of Naserdin Shah who took the idea of having naval force seriously, and tried to materialize it.
