The Efficiency of Religion in Islamic Republic Ayatullah Muhammad Taqi Mesbah

"The efficiency of religion" is one of the fundamental issues in the realm of political thought, whose consideration can remove some of the ambiguities and doubts in the realm of Islamic political thinking. The role of religion in society and paying attention to it in social arenas can heighten the level of expectations as to the efficiency of religion. We cannot expect the realm of religion to be confined to an individualʹs relation with his God, and such a religion cannot be expected to present solutions for issues in social arenas. Only a religion encompassing individual and social arenas, and being able to offer solutions for social predicaments and problems in different times and places, can enjoy a high level of efficiency. It goes without saying that for achieving such a goal three crucial elements of religion (beliefs, ethics, and precepts) must be at focus of attention in the society so that religion can display its highest level of efficiency in the light of the individualsʹ acting according to religious precepts and values. Similarly, in the Islamic Republic regime, the efficiency of religion in society can be realized just when these three elements are properly addressed.
