Walaya (Religious Authority)and Its Collective Aspect

According to Islamic traditions, Walaya is one of the most basic doctrines of Islam. Walaya and Mowalat (mutual affection) is a spiritual and strong bond linking the believers and Divine Proof (Hujjat of Allah), somehow connecting their destiny in this world and hereafter. Despite what many think, Walaya is not the relation between each individual believer and the Divine Proof; rather, it is the relation of the whole group of believers with the Divine Proof and with one another. The divine Walaya turns all believers into a single united body, making the purified stream of affection and self-sacrifice flow. Walaya is the spirit of Islam and is able to bestow the spiritual life to the Muslim community, making one single soul out of them.
