A study of the validity of solitary traditions in doctrinal issues

One the sources for proving religious doctrines are the bulk of traditions. Unanimous traditions and the solitary traditions supported by definite evidences are used in spheres of jurisprudence, theology, Quran commentary, history and the like. Although the solitary traditions of assumed validity are used in inferring jurisprudential precepts, it should be asked whether such traditions can be used in non-jurisprudential subjects such as doctrinal matters. This paper has been organized to present a proper answer to this question by studying views and statements of those thinkers who have commented on this issue, and by referring to libraries. Some findings of this study are as follows: preserving the boundaries between unanimous traditions, definite solitary traditions and assumed solitary traditions; the mode of issuing traditions and their implication; the method of inference in rational and traditional matter. These findings have shown the degree of validity of assumed solitary traditions in non-jurisprudential matters.
