Theology and the Religious Sociology; the Epistemological and Methodological Comparison

This article tries to deal with the distinction and interaction between two disciplines of theology and the sociology from epistemological and methodological viewpoints. Therefore, theology as a science (Kalam) and theology as a set of religious doctrines are separated from one another, and the epistemological and methodological characteristics of each are stated. Then, definitions of "religious sociology", sources of knowledge and methodology, and an epistemological and methodological comparison between theology and religious sociology are put forwarded. Besides, the interaction between religious sociology and theology as well as the interaction between religious sociology and religious doctrines are scrutinized along these two lines of discussion, with different forms of their interaction being reviewed.
