A Reflection on the Potential Capacity of the Human Nature

The doctrine of "human nature" is considered one of the basic issues in Islamic thought. According to Islamic religious texts, all human beings enjoy a divinely nature; but the problem of actuality or potentiality of this innate knowledge is one of the important issues usually neglected in scientific sources and circles. This article uses a theoretical approach and documentary method to deal with this issue, aiming at an analytical study of it based on Quranic verses and Imamsʹ sayings. In the writerʹs view, even if we can not prove the actuality of the divinely nature, claiming it as merely potential is also inconsistent with the implications of religious texts. At least, we can claim that the divine knowledge institutionalized in human beings is at a higher status than his general capacity.
