Hans Kungs Critique on the Doctrine of Popeʹs Infallibility

The doctrine of Popeʹs infallibility is one of the doctrines which are incumbent upon every Catholic to accept and respect. It is not permissible to oppose it and every one who does something in this regard would be anathematized by the church. Pope, as the teaching authority of the church with his pastoral duties, is responsible for teaching the Christians. He is supported by the Father and the Son through Holy Spirit. Pope is the guardian and the defender of the Christiansʹ faith, and must not commit any wrong. Thus he is infallible in this position. Although it has been institutionalized in Christian belief that no body is allowed to question or criticized any of the infallible doctrines such as Popeʹs infallibility, Kung is the theologian who criticized this doctrine. With his critical approach, Kung questioned both the Popeʹs position and his authority, debilitating the doctrine itself by damaging its fundamental substructures. This paper, with a theoretical approach and from Kungʹs view, reviews and criticizes the doctrine of Popeʹs infallibility.
