Sheikh Sadook and Rukn al-Dawlah; A Glance at the Relation between a Great Shiʹi Scholar and a Buwayhi Ruler

For the twelver Shiʹi school, the Buwayhi era was a time of prosperity for which this school had been yearning. One of the first decades of that era Sheikh Sadook was frequently invited by Hassn Rukn al-Dawlah, a Buwayhi ruler, whose castle lied in a mountous area in of Iran. Through the debates which Shiekh Sadook had with religious scholars from different Islamic sects and sometimes with some atheists in the presense of Rukn al-Dawlah, Sheikh Sadook could keenly defend the Shiʹi beliefs and as a result, Rukn al-Dawlah was attracted towards Shiʹism. The article reviews the conduct of each of these two figures and refers to the highly respectable attitudes of each of them. The debates and correspondence between these two figures have been discussed, too.
