Investigation of Affecting Parameters on Catalyst Attrition in FCC Cyclones by CFD Techniques

n this paper the effect of velocity and catalyst loading on catalyst attrition in the cyclones of fluid catalytic cracking units (FCC) has been investigated by using a CFD code. In order to predict the effect of attrition on diameter of particles the experimental correlations proposed by Ghadiri were used. The results show that the catalyst attrition intensity, or equivalently the amount of fines produced, depends on the weight of catalyst and square of velocity as well as the inverse of square root of the input particle concentration in gas.
