8. The Role of Insurance Industry in Iran Economics and Capital Market, and Some Developed and Developing Countries

Today, insurance is the vital component of financial system in each country. Insurance companies help to prepare and allocate the capital and assist to finance economic units beside other financial bodies. In this study, with a view to the experiences of some advanced and developing countriesʹ capital market, the situation of insurance bodies in capital market is compared to other bodies of capital market and some solutions are provided for insurance institutes which have more effective participation in the capital markets of the country. Experiences of the countries under survey indicated that the share of insurance industry from GDP in developed countries and developing countries is respectively 9.03% and 1.88% . Also, the composition of insurance industry asset in the mentioned countries indicated that the assets of insurance companies are entered into the financial markets and investment in different ways. Present survey indicated that the share of Iranian insurance industry in GDP and the amount of insurance companies contribution in financial markets for the period of 1997-2006 on the average are respectively 0.96% and 9.29%, comparing with the number of the countries considered in this study is very few. Also, surveying the ratio of the received premium with the dealt stock value , and the ratio of the received premium to the current value in the stock market during 1997-2006, we can see that the average mentioned guidelines are respectively 47.54% and 6.34%, which shows the little share of the insurance industry in the market of currency notes.
