Nulliparous Womenʹs Experiences of Labor Pain: A Qualitative Study

Background &Objectives: Since the labor pain is the most painful experience a woman can have in her lifetime in midwifery field relief from it had been paid attention for many years .The aim of this study is explore the nature of nulliparous womenʹs experiences of labor pain and coping with it. Materials & Methods: This qualitative study was performed on 10 nulliparous women of Khoy (in West Azerbaijan) and Marand (in East Azerbaijan) maternity hospitals which were interviewed the day after vaginal. Unstructured interviews were used for data gathering. Data were analyzed by content analysis. Results: Findings of the study were divided into two sections: "physiologic adaptation" including womenʹs behaviors during labor and "psychological adaptation" including interpersonal factors (personal awareness, spirituality, imaging) and also interaction factors (support of midwives and support of relatives). Conclusion: The results of this study showed that the psychological and physiologic methods enable women to adapt to the labor pain. The results of this study will enhance midwivesʹ ability to provide better prenatal care to the women in achieve their goals to feed the positive birth experiences.
