Genetic Evaluation of Some Economic Traits in Crossbred Silkworm by Reciprocal Crossbreeding

The aim of this study was to assess the variance components, heritability and genetic correlation of some economic traits, Data were collected during 2004-2007 from hybrids of six lines of silkworm. In all hybrids, the heritability of cocoon weight was higher than that for cocoon shell weight. Heritability for percentage of cocoon shell was lower than other traits. There was a high and positive genetic correlation between cocoon weight and cocoon shell weight and there was a low genetic correlation between cocoon weight and percentage of cocoon shell. Heterosis effect on means of cocoon weight and cocoon shell weight was positive and the increase percentage of heterosis caused an increas in means of these traits. Along with increasing in recombination percentage in cocoon shell percentage, mean of this trait increased. The results showed that there was an inverse relationship between heterosis and recombination effects. Also genetic gain and means of traits in 31, 32 and their hybrids were higher than those for other hybrids. Therefore it is expected that the use of these lines is better for commercial purposes.
