Effect of Nitrogen fertilizer and plant density on Seed yield, mucilage And oil Content of Ocimum basilicum L.

In order to study the effect of nitrogen levels and plant density on seed yield, Mucilage and oil content of sweet basil, an experiment was conducted in agriculture farm of Qazvin agricultural construction center in 2005. The experiment was laid out by adopting split plot design with four replications, Main plots were nitrogen: 30, 60 and 90 and 120 kg/ha and subplots were plant density include: 10, 20 and 30 pland/m2. Seed yield, mucilage and oil content were determined. Result showed nitrogen and plant density effected on Seed yield, mucilage and oil content. With increasing of nitrogen to 120 kg/ha, there was a significant increase in seed yield. But the highest mucilage and oil content was obtained with 90 kg nitrogen / ha. With the increasing of plant density, seed yield decreased. But mucilage and oil content had not affected by plant density, Mucilage and fatty acids of the seeds have been extracted in 4.27 % and 21.5 % yield. In general with using of 120 kg/ha nitrogen and 30 plant/m2 was obtained the highest seed yield mucilage and oil yield 3375, 150 and 816 kg/ha respectively.
