چكيده لاتين :
Drought stress is one of the most important environmental stresses and many experiments have been carried out to evaluate the negative effect of drought stress during water deficient condition. Application of super absorbent polymers in order to increase water holding capacity of soils is one of the proposal methods. Super absorbent is a chemical compound that absorbs water and nutrient and help to increase the growth of plant. In order to study the effect of super absorbent polymer on some agronomic characters (yield, seed 100 weight and Harvest index) and activity of antioxidant enzymes (super oxide dismutase, glutathione peroxides and catalase) in red bean (phaseolus vulgaris) varieties under drought stress various tests conducted in laboratory and field experiments in research station of Islamic Azad University, Karaj Branch and Tarbiat Moalem University - Tehran in 2005. The statistics design was split factorial design under randomized complete block design (RCBD) with four replication, in which Irrigation treatments were main plots (factor A), red bean varieties (Derakhshan, D81083, Naz) and two super absorbent concentration (0 , 7%) were factor B , C on subplots respectively. Result showed signification difference between irrigation treatments, varieties and polymers concentration for measured characteristics. Drought stress caused significant effects on increasing antioxidant enzymes activity and reduced seed yield, seed 100 weight and Harvest index. In field experiments super absorbent polymer (7%) increased the agronomic characteristics and reduced antioxidant enzymes activity. Results showed Naz and Derakhshan varieties were drought tolerant and sensitive varieties respectively. Drought stress increased antioxidant enzymes activity. Results showed that super absorbent absorb and keep the water around the roots and it can reduce death of plants from water shortage. These chemical compounds can increase agronomic characteristics, so with attention to increasing yield and yield components and reducing the use of water, application of super absorbent was proposed specially in water deficit condition.
