An Introduction to Competitive Intelligence in Russia

Competitive intelligence is a technique of identifying, gathering, analyzing and providing action - oriented information in relation to competitors or competition environment to support decision - making by the managers of institutions or organizations regarding the formulation of a strategic plan. The markets of Russia and the CIS countries are very attractive and potentially profitable for Iran. But, at the same time, they could be considered unsustainable or even meaningless for Iranian investors, especially in the sectors dealing with defense dual use. This becomes more complicated in the scientific and technical dimensions, because, despite many exchanges between Iran and Russia during the past • years, there is no significant trace of this former superpower in Iranʹs scientific establishment. Russia and Iran are sharing a concern about security threats posed by the Western bloc and especially, the U.S. In Russia, competitive intelligence is rooted in its military and civil spying structures. This article tries to give a clear picture of the phenomemon of competitive intelligence in Russia.
