The Status of Apprenticeship Program in Educational Administration

Educational administration plays a significant role in realization of educational goals of any organization. Learning the theoretical basis of educational administration is one thing, but to observe and practice administrative skills has its own value. Apprenticeship programs provide such opportunities. To assess the status of one such program in educational administration, 40 apprenticeship reports written by undergraduate students in educational administration were content analyzed. Results show the need for opportunities to observe and acquire administrative skills in real educational settings. Students interactions with teachers and administrators seems to lead to better understanding and attitude towards this area of schooling. One significant finding in this study was the fact that administrative functions were more frequent than leadership functions. Suggestions are made as to how to remedy some of the ills of programs for administrator training.
