In present study, the relationship between water cations (Na\ K+, Ca2+ and Mg2+) with lipid compositions of muscle in common carp (Cyprinus carpio) in 15 ponds with capacity of 10 hectare were investigated. The experiment was carried out for 7 months (from March to October 2007) in Dikjeh area of Gonbad in Golestan province. The range of salinity (0.3-2.7 gr/1), Na+ (0.99-26.30 mMol/1), K+ (0.60-14.20 mMol/1), Ca2+ (0.68-24.62 mg/dl) and Mg2+ (0.87-12 mg/dl) were measured. Total lipid of muscle showed significant and positive correlations with water salinity (P<0.01) and Na+ (P<0.05), respectively. The correlations of water salinity and Ca2+ with linoleic acid and (£n-6) PUFA were significant and positive (P<0.05). But no significant correlations were found (P>0.05) among other unsaturated fatty acids with water salinity and ionic parameters. As a result, water salinity and ionic parameters influence lipid quality of common carp.
