Effect of Information Technology on Public Organizations Productivity

Determining the productivity effects of information technology? can be a difficult task if not an impossible one. The initial costs of information technologies can be quantified with relative ease, but their actual contributions to an organization and its clientels are often difficult to measure. Appeal and enthusiasm to have the latest technologies, may mislead to the conception that IT always results in acquiring productivity. In this article, the relationship between productivity and information technology in public sector has been examined and the issue that the results of private sector researches cannot be generalized to public organizations, has been stated. Finally, after asserting the "productivity paradox" term, i.e. information technology does not lead to increase productivity; indicators to improve the relationship between IT and productivity have been presented. Obliviously in public organizations, the proper application of IT technologies can provide high quality and 7~apid services to the public.
