An evaluation of chemical composition, structure and surface fraction of inclusions on machinability of CK45 steels

Machinability is one of the most important and effective parameters in metal pieces production, especially necessary pieces in automotive industry. Valuable factors of machinability are divided as tool life, cutting force and surface roughness. In this paper, two factors including cutting force and surface roughness are studied in CK45 steels with different composition. The most important and effective metallurgic parameters on machinability are chemical composition, structure and inclusion characteristics. Effects of Chemical composition, carbon content and alloy element are studied by quantometry and itʹs observed that strengthening alloy elements have caused the decrease of machinability. Structure and inclusion characteristics are evaluated by light microscope and CLEMEX software and itʹs observed that with the increasing of surface fraction of inclusions would be improved the machinability.
