Techniques for Reformation of Delinquents

Reformation of the offender and returning him to society is among the important discussions in all legal systems; this is because defending individualsʹ entity and all citizensʹ reputation are among the duties of the legal system and the authorities in every country. Just as a society seeks to confront the offenders and delinquents, it must seek to reform these individuals, reconciling and adjusting them to the society, for reforming the delinquents is much more effective than punishing them. Today, all legal systems try to adopt rational policies to prepare the ground for returning the offenders to the society, preventing their exclusion as far as possible. The present paper, using a documentary method and library resources, aims at stating the techniques for reforming the offenders and paving the way for returning them to the society and their being adjusted. It results from this paper that in traditional societies, the purpose of punishment has been to intimidate others, while what is considered today as the goal is to reform the offender and the society as a whole. Therefore, the purpose of punishment is not just to remunerate the offender; rather, it has a great role in reforming the society as well. Taking measures for reforming the delinquents is among the duties of the authorities. The legislators must seek to enact laws which greatly contribute to reformation of the society.
