Promotion of virtue and prevention of vice in the Constitution

The peopleʹs right to monitor the performance of the government and its affiliated bodies, which is called, Promotion of virtue and prevention of vice in veligious texts, is one of the basic principles of democracy. In addition to recognizing this right, the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as the official document of religious democracy, has tried to devise various ways to guarantee its materialization. This article reviews the existing mechanisms and analyses of the code 8, which is the most fundamental article of the Constitution in this regard. According to the article, people are the real owners of the government and the officials are the peopleʹs representatives in running the society. Thus, it is incumbent on everyone to closely monitor the situation and encourage the good and forbid the evil in order to improve it. All this requires the legislation of laws in the Majlis, (Islamic parliament) which unfortunately has not been done yet.
