Introducing the police capabilities on increasing the sense of being safe

The sense of being safe is a phenomenon in social psychology domain. Having the common sense about the threats and ways of tackling with them by the citizens, is a phenomenon related to the feeling of being safe. The enrichment of this feeling is one of the police capabilities in the society, hence recognition of the police capabilities on making people feel more safe is the primary goal of the present study, which its components have been studied with the help of comparison method from citizenʹs perspectives. Statistical population in this research, is 980 persons over 15 years old and residents of Tehran. The sampling method used in this research is the cluster sampling which utilizes the simple random method. Final analysis has been done by SPSS software. Findings of this research show that police capabilities to make people feel more safe consist of nine components which are relatively: 1. Lawfulness of police in performing duties 2. Active presence in the society 3. Utilizing the modern equipments of police 4. Precision, maintaining order and keeping sensitive to the police performance 5. Obtaining special police training 6. Focusing on citizenʹs needs and critics 7. Having special personal police abilities 8. Interaction with people and protecting them 9. Active participation in research centers and scientific societies
