Conceptual Levels and Success Factors of Career Choice in Physical Education Students of Mashhadʹs Universities

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the function of Perryʹs intellectual development theory in evaluation and compare conceptual levels and success factors of career choice in physical education students. In this survey, 97 males and 64 females, from physical education students of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Imam Reza and Islamic Azad University were stratified randomly selected and Knefelakamp and Sleptizaʹs revised scale were distributed. Content validity of this tool was confirmed by experts and internal consistency of questions in a pilot study was 0.83. Data analysis was performed by the one way ANOVA, Independent-samples T test and Pearson correlation coefficient. The findings were showed There was no difference between the intellectual development of physical education students of Mashhadʹs universities in separation to sex and type of university (p>0.05). There was a significant relationship between the intellectual development of career choice of physical education students with the choice of the field of study and the type of university as the factors of success in career choice (p<0.05). Based on the results, majority of the students willing to accept more responsibility in relation to their career choice (relativism position). The studentsʹ achievement to this level at intellectual development might be because of their hopelessness or lack of confidence in external mechanisms rather than the result of educational outputs. Therefore, conduct some career counseling workshops for faculty members and students, having some internship courses and motivating the students in order to have professional networking and developing research sprite in them are useful to enhance intellectual development in physical education students.
