Electronic Records Management (ERM), a New Research Field Accountable to the Needs of Information Era

Developing special kind of records called electronic records which have managerial, legal, cultural, and historical aspects accounts for raising a multidiscipline field called Electronic Records Management (ERM). ERM that is supposed to respond contemporary worldʹs challenges is considered by archivists increasingly. While in traditional approach archivists were assigned cultural responsibility, in the prospect of ERM, in addition to former task they should service businesses and organizations to help to actualize electronic government and organizational knowledge management in organizations. In the present essay, electronic records issues, the history of ERM, and records management systems are offered; further, the difference between electronic records management and electronic document management as well as requirements of electronic records and electronic records management as a research field be discussed in detail.
